It was a total impulse purchase, but I love my fuzzy anchors & stripes sweater! Taking advantage of one of the warmer days to wear shoes that aren't boots. I love my boots, but one can get very sick of wearing a pair of boots every single day. Especially after the snow that the city got this past weekend! Today is rainy, but warm enough for me to get away with wearing flats without tights or socks. These green skinny crops have unexpectedly become a staple in my closet, I've been wearing them a lot more than I thought I would. Love the kelly green color.

Every girl needs a faux leather shift dress, right? Ok, just kidding. This dress was actually purchased by my sister some time last year, but has been hanging in my closet with the tags on it for ages. I never thought I'd ever find an appropriate time or place to wear it. In the summer, when you'd want to wear a sleeveless dress, the pleather would be uncomfortable. I considered layering a blouse underneath, but still felt like I would give off too much of a biker vibe. But while I was searching for a cute, inexpensive faux leather mini, I decided to give layering over the dress a try. The casual chambray tones it down a lot, and paired with non-black leather shoes, I don't think it's overwhelming at all. Still a bit out of my cozy comfort zone, especially with the shirt buttoned all the way up (I NEVER do this), but I like the end result.

Got these glittens as a gift through work and I love them! Perfect for using my iPhone (for some reason I am so clumsy with touch screen gloves) or reaching for my metrocard while out and about in the cold.

This shade of blue is probably one of my favorite colors to wear, but it's so hard to photograph accurately. In real life, my dress definitely has a bit more of a teal/peacock look to it. I am such a fan of DVF's "goya blue" color that I own two different dresses in this shade! Lately life has gotten in the way of my blogging (which I'm completely fine with), but I woke up early today and got a chance to snap these photos before work. Can't wait till spring when it won't be dark when I get out of bed.

Apologies for being a bit MIA lately, it's been brutally cold in NYC and I've been sick since New Year's Eve. That combination has prevented me from venturing out into the tundra to snap some outfit photos. But, I do adore my winter coat, and am delighted to have discovered that it actually will keep me warm. It's not just functional, it's sort of cute, too! I'm the type of person that will sometimes sacrifice comfort for style. But living in the city means there is a lot of walking around involved, and for that one needs a warm coat.

Uniqlo had a large selection of reasonably priced puffer coats. I've refused to wear a puffer before because I hate the way I look in them, but this green hooded number is probably my favorite out of all of the ones I've seen. I don't feel like the Michelin man while wearing this, and the green makes it stand out a bit from the sea of black puffer jackets in NYC. And it's super lightweight, in fact, so lightweight that I was shocked at how warm it kept me during some very cold days. Especially when bundled up in a thick cashmere scarf and with the hood up, I felt quite cozy. I have a feeling I'll be reaching for this jacket quite often.

When it's this cold out, I can't really handle wearing real clothes. Which is why I wore the yoga pants that I wore in the previous post, but with a cozy sweater that was long enough to cover the important bits. Once again, so lucky that I am able to wear such casual items to work.

This is yet another cold weather outfit from this week. My go to uniform is: sweater tunic & leggings/skinnies tucked into boots. Not the most interesting combinations, but they are pretty cozy and comfortable. This turtleneck marled sweater is from Aqua (Bloomingdale's) and I'm wearing J.Brand skinnies tucked into the Off 5th boots that I really can't stop wearing. No really, I want to wear them every single day. They are competing hard to be my favorite pair of boots of all time.

I hope everyone is staying warm! I'm hoping to recover soon and not be such a miserable grouch!

Happy New Year! This is actually what I wore on the first day of 2012, but I've been enjoying my holiday break and was too lazy to upload photos! The weather was gorgeous out and I wanted a chance to wear some new purchases from the holidays. Loved that a chunky sweater, a nice pair of boots & bag can dress up even wearing yoga pants and a t-shirt. The boots & bag have got to be my favorite new closet additions. Snapped up the boots heavily reduced at Off 5th back home, and I haven't been able to stop wearing them since. They are incredibly comfortable and I really needed a new sturdy pair of simple black boots. After coveting (and borrowing) my sister's oversized YSL Muse, I am excited to have one of my own. On me the regular size is perfect, and I love patent leather and think that it's so fun. You'll be seeing plenty of the bag on this blog.

My NYE manicure, OPI Mad as a Hatter layered over Essie Over the Edge. Crazy glittery and a major pain to get off but I love it.

A quick snap of the delicious spread at a New Year's dinner with college girlfriends. Based it around meatballs (they were homemade and amazing!) but we had some other goodies too.

After indulging for the long holiday break (I did manage to squeeze in a few runs at home but have totally slacked lately), I've decided that I really need to work on my new year's resolutions starting ASAP. I'm hoping that putting them on this blog will help reinforce my yearlong effort to be successful at achieving the goals that I set for myself. So I am attempting to keep them realistic and achievable, but still striving for something more.

In 2012... I will:

train for & complete a half-marathon
reduce my material consumption

be more realistic about my lifestyle's wardrobe needs and minimize unnecessary impulse purchases
sort through my clothes and donate or sell items that don't fit or I don't love
make a bigger effort to plan out meals/food purchases in order to make sure I don't end up throwing out food that doesn't get eaten/goes bad

try to be a more considerate & compassionate person

Well those are my resolutions for the upcoming year. I'm hoping that when I look back on January 1, 2013, I won't be disappointed.

Merry Christmas! Absolutely love this time of year, I love spending quality time with my family and it always makes me appreciate all of my blessings. Hope everyone had a lovely holiday as well! After several days of lounging about in yoga inspired outfits (discovering lululemon has been a blessing and a curse), finally wore this look for Christmas service today. No white Christmas this year, instead it was a grey and rainy one, but I was cozy in this sweater dress that I found in my old closet. Paired with leopard loafers, this was such a comfortable outfit. I'm on vacation, I have absolutely no desire to wear anything but comfortable clothes until I have to go back to work next week.

I knew when I saw these lovely red tights that I had to incorporate them somehow into an outfit this week. They are pretty vibrant so I wanted to keep the rest of the look pretty neutral with black and grey. What I'm pretty excited about is my new coat! I've had a jacket with leather sleeves on my wishlist for ages, but never found any that were in my price range. Found this tweed coat (the tweed has specks of different colors in it) heavily marked down at Bloomie's this weekend, and knew that it was meant to be. I have never tried anything from Comptoir des Cotonniers before, but I love this coat so much that I definitely want to check out the rest of the line soon.

Another holiday event, another day to wear sparkles! I really love this skirt, it just feels so holiday appropriate and festive. The bad thing (maybe good thing) is that this skirt is from a few years ago, and it currently too big. My solution to that was to fold the top band over, and to tie this blouse in the front to conceal that. I think it works! And now after seeing this photo I realize that my top isn't as opaque as I thought it was in my apartment. Luckily though it isn't as sheer in real life as in this photo, so no wardrobe malfunctions at work today!

These liquid leggings were a gag gift from my lovely friend A a few years ago. I thought they were hilarious but never really wore them. Then I figured, why not? I think the thick and cozy sweater tunic balances out the shiny leggings in a way that keeps me from looking like that weird creature from the American Horror Story previews.

Winter has definitely arrived in NY. It's definitely too cold to not be wearing socks, learned my lesson this morning. I should stick to tights or boots!

I swear that this outfit didn't look so "Halloween"-ish when I first tried it on, but after seeing these photographs, I get a definite Halloween vibe from it, due to the orange and black color combination. These black ponte knit pants (that I can finally fit back into after a few years!) look a lot blacker in these photos than they do in real life. I definitely feel like I am channeling the 90s today with my colorblock blazer and neon tee. The tee is actually highlighter pink in real life, it is hard to capture in photos but I love how bright it is! Picked up this colorblock blazer this weekend while I was home in Atlanta, I thought it would be a great alternative to the classic black blazer. Paired with a skirt borrowed from my sister's closet (these heels are a previous acquisition from there as well), this can be a suit-esque look that isn't stuffy or boring at all, which is normally my concern with suits.

Hope everyone had a fabulous Thanksgiving weekend! I was able to spend some much needed quality time with my family and the puppies. It was so great to relax somewhere outside of the city, and escape the hustle and bustle for a long weekend. Didn't go too crazy on Black Friday, but did pick up some great pieces that I'm looking forward to wearing! Oh, and I got a haircut too, although I'm not sure about the shorter bangs quite yet.

On this blog, I tend to capture my work and casual weekend wear outfits, rather than my going out clothes. Probably because I don't really have that many "going out" specific outfits, I tend to wear the same dresses out over and over again. This is one of my favorite dresses for going out during the cooler months. Love that it has sleeves, and it looks great with tights and heels or boots. And the fact that it only cost me $20 makes me love it just a little bit more, and it's comfortable to boot. Wore this for a girls' night out with some college girlfriends! =)

There are two new items in today's OOTD that I'm excited about. One is the bright neon infinity scarf I picked up at Target this weekend. The neon is a bit crazy bright but I have never shied away from brights. I couldn't resist stopping by Target when I was in North Carolina, I love the stores that are in the suburbs. The NYC Targets are always so picked over. The other is the green Burberry Brit anorak that my sister was kind enough to lend me. I've always loved it on her, but she said it didn't get enough wear so that I should borrow it. I've worn it non-stop since, it's the perfect topper for this finicky weather, especially since I can add in the liner that goes along with it when it gets a bit chillier.

This past weekend I was lucky enough to spend it with some of my closest girlfriends celebrating my friend E's nuptials! It was an amazing time from start the finish, and I feel so lucky to have such wonderful people in my life. Not only was the wedding absolutely gorgeous all around (I would expect no less from the bride), but I loved this chance to go all out dressing up. I was nervous that the dress would not be dressy enough for a black tie event, since it is made out of jersey knit material, but I really didn't want to go out and buy a new dress. To dress it up, I added a fluffy bolero and some sparkly earrings. And don't forget the glitter heels.

And speaking of weddings... congrats to my little sister Sophia on her engagement! Can't wait to start helping out with wedding planning!

This dress makes me feel like a figure skater whenever I wear it, especially today because I paired it with sparkly heels. But luckily I don't think that's a bad thing! Originally just threw a plain black coat over it, but it wasn't as cold as I thought it would be, so this lightweight orange jacket added some more color to my outfit to perk up a gloomy morning. The sparkly heels are not something I would normally reach for to wear during the day, but I just got them and need to break them in for my friend E's wedding this weekend! I think that they are so fun, but in grey the glitter isn't so over the top.

Pleasantly surprised by how much I love this outfit today. I try to plan my looks ahead of time to save time in the morning, but the warmer weather definitely threw me off. Wanted something that would easily transition from day to night, and I think the metallic top is perfect for that, and I feel so festive wearing it. Brought out my bright but beaten up F&C city tote, I love carrying this because it brings back memories of when I visited NYC before I moved here (bought this at a sample sale while shopping with a college girlfriend, who bought the same one). There is a lot of blue in this look, but somehow I think it ended up alright.

This dress is from one of my favorite Target/designer collaborations, I love the shape & prints of Tucker dresses, but they are definitely pricey. Glad I could have picked up this bargain version of their signature dress last year. It is such a beautiful day in New York today, the weather is absolutely amazing. Paired with my lululemon leggings, I feel like I'm getting away with wearing pajamas outside. Love that I can run and work out in these, but also wear them with tunics and boots.

Love this schoolboy blazer, but I never reach for it because I always think it has a bit of a stuffy vibe to it if not styled correctly. I must be color-blind, because I would have sworn up and down that this sweater was black and white, not navy and white until I saw these photos. Which is why I paired this look with black accessories and a grey coat! I still think it works though, even though it's a bit more red, white, & blue than I was planning on.

I think it's now past the point of getting away with having my ankles exposed... too cold for this now.

Still can't believe that it snowed over the weekend! The weather has definitely turned into winter and I am not okay with it. The only small consolation that I have is that I get to wear some cute outerwear. For some reason I'm obsessed with faux-fur trimmed jackets, I just think that they're so warm and cozy looking!

Visiting a winery in the Hudson River Region was the perfect way to spend a crisp autumn afternoon. Not only was it a way to get a much need respite from the city, but I really enjoyed seeing the fall colors really coming out on the trees! And who doesn't love wine? We got a glimpse of the wine making process, and got to taste several different varieties. I actually don't know that much about wine at all, so it was very interesting to hear an expert's opinion.

Happy Friday! So glad that it's the weekend finally, I feel like I've had such a long week, especially being sick the whole time (finally getting better, zpack works miracles) while being slammed at work. But I am really looking forward to the weekend. I decided to go the super casual route today. I love leggings, especially the Lululemon Wunder Under Crops, which are great both for working out and casual wear. They are so comfortable that I have several of the solid black ones, but I love this black camo printed pair. The print is subtle enough that it doesn't scream CAMO! I am not a member of the "leggings as pants" club, but I think as long as your tunic/dress covers all the important bits, you can wear leggings as part of any outfit. This type of sweater tunic was on my fall wishlist, but I really didn't want to spend too much money on it. Luckily I found this particular sweater at Uniqlo, which has really reasonable prices for cute clothing. They had a few other colors, but I told myself I'm not allowed to buy multiples anymore. I definitely feel very cozy today in my sweater, fuzzy vest, and boots. A great way to be comfortable on a Friday!

Never thought to put these colors together, but as I was unpacking my fall clothes this cardigan was sitting on top of this blouse! That's what I call a happy accident. I'm trying to cut back on my shopping, so it's always great when I re-discover items in my closet that were packed away, out of sight. I love wearing new things (probably a little too much), but now I'm trying harder to get more satisfaction from wearing clothes that I've owned for years, and to be just as excited to wear them as the day that they were purchased. I've mentioned this before, but my closet is miniscule, and sometimes I feel like my clothes are taking over my apartment. Nothing welcomes fall better than a cozy knit sweater. This particular sweater is a bit bulkier than the ones I usually go for, but I think when paired with slim bottoms, it's not as unflattering as I originally thought it would be. Comfort and warmth won me over with this particular tunic. Even though I love the cooler weather that's happening right now, I'm in a bit of denial at the fact that soon it will be freezing cold out and winter will be upon us. Eeep! Do not want to think about that already...

This is one of my favorite DVF wrap dresses, I love that it can be dressed up to go out in, or toned down to be worn to work. The Spring Shadows print is one that I love so much, that I have two different styles of wrap dresses in it. Not sure if I love the red patent heels with this look, I think it looked better in the mirror in my apartment versus these photos. I hate when that happens, like today I think this looks a lot better with black patent heels, but my photos still have the red. And please excuse the wet hair, I swear it looks a lot better after it dries!

This look is definitely an "office" look to me, but I love that the knit dress is still comfortable to wear all day. The one thing I hate is feeling all buttoned-up at work. Fridays are always great, but even better when they're before a long weekend! I don't even have any plans, but the weather is supposed to be great and it's always nice to have an extra day off. After a long week, I feel like I need this badly! Just went for a casual look today, I've been looking for a cozy sweater like this for a while, but didn't want to spend too much so was happy to find this grey one at F21. To run further with the casual look I paired it with my skinny cargos. These pants are not the most flattering, but they're pretty comfortable!

Last night I was lucky enough to attend the CMA Songwriter Series performance, which I've been to before and always enjoyed. It was a great show, especially since Billy Currington was singing as well! I love country music, even though most people can't believe that I do. I blame my time spent in Nashville, the country music capital of the world. I'd never listened to a country song until I moved there, and now I'm obsessed. And as a huge Billy Currington fan, it was very exciting to hear him sing live with just a guitar, and even get to meet him afterwards! A few years ago in Nashville I had seen Billy perform with Shania Twain when the Today Show was in town, which meant I woke up at 5am to see him. Luckily the show last night was at a reasonable hour.

I love that it is finally sweater dress season! It's so simple to throw a knit dress on with some tights and boots and just run out the door. And this printed dress is one of my favorites, even though I actually sold it at one point, and then re-bought it from another source afterwards. It's such a bright color, but I thought paired with all black it still looked appropriate for the cooler weather.

These AE Ankle-Zip Booties are no Acne Pistol Boots, but for the price (under $45 w/ code) they have fulfilled my simple black ankle boot "need" in my closet. I'm pleasantly surprised at how comfortable they are.

Pink + green is one of my favorite color combinations, and I thought it went well with my grey twill pants. I'm officially obsessed with aerie/AE pants. Not only do I own these ankle zip twill pants in two different colors, I'm in love with a simple pair of black jeggings from aerie as well the bright red jeggings from AE. Maybe I am a pants convert after all.

I've obviously hopped onto the bright denim bandwagon, and I'm loving it! These cobalt skinnies are definitely brightening up my day. To be honest I can't believe I've been wearing pants so much lately, I've always been a skirt/dress kind of girl. Probably because it's always hard for me to to find pants with a short enough inseam that I don't need to get hemmed. Luckily cropped pants have been in recently, and on my short legs, they fit like normal length pants.

There is a lot of blue in this outfit, but I don't think they clash with each other. I actually tried to find my coral bubble necklace this morning and failed. But the turquoise matches on of the colors in the printed silk scarf! Wearing a scarf in my hair is a bit out of my comfort zone, but I love this zig zag scarf my lovely friend S picked up for me at her local Target (I didn't even try to go to any of the NYC locations). I never feel comfortable wearing all solids, and I think the printed scarf and leopard heels add some more fun to this look!

In the process of sorting through my closet to put away summery items and bring out more cold weather clothes, I re-discovered some gems. This dress had been hanging in my closet all summer long, but I never reached for it, so I decided to give it a go before it got too cold (although I think this would work layered with a cardigan and tights for fall).

The studded Rebecca Minkoff tote had been hiding in my closet too! It had been too hot to lug a heavy-ish leather tote around, but now that it's cooled down a bit I am more comfortable carrying it. It's perfect for carrying all the stuff I lug around every day, and has enough room for me to toss my heels in during my commute.

Is it really only Tuesday? I'm counting down the days till Friday....

I tried not to get sucked into the hoopla surrounding Missoni for Target, but couldn't help picking up this printed sweater dress. It's great to wear now during this transitional fall weather, and I thought it would look cute in the winter layered with a button down underneath and worn with tights and boots.

The dress is surprisingly well made, and I love the colors that are found in the signature zig zag pattern. Loved this collaboration, wish I had been able to pick up a few more pieces! (A lovely friend was able to pick up the silk scarf for me as well.)

Now that it's getting cooler I have so many more items to list out from my OOTD! I feel like during the summer it was two or three items max. Fall is all about the layering, especially with my commute. Sorry for the lack of posts, and the iPhone pics. Hopefully the weather will hold up in the mornings so I can take real photos again!

I had a busy (but very fun) weekend, and yesterday was a bit of a rough day for me so I had zero motivation to look cute to go to work. And I broke down and did something that I have been trying to avoid for the past few weeks: retail therapy. I am aware that I enjoy shopping far too much, and have been making an effort not to let myself use shopping as a way to make myself feel better. So I do feel a bit guilty for indulging, but I didn't do too much damage (you can't really go that crazy in F21). Picked up a few colorful items (including this bright yellow top) that definitely helped perk up my mood, especially this morning when I got dressed on this dreary day.

How do you keep yourself from emotional shopping? I'm honestly a little disappointed in myself, but there is no point in beating myself up again, just need to remind myself that I do not ever need anything, that everything outside of necessities is a *want*.

Finally Friday! I can wear jeans whenever I want to work, but for some reason I prefer to save them to wear on "casual" Fridays. I also haven't worn skinny jeans in forever, I had been avoiding them like the plague this summer, but today they felt just right. Another item I haven't worn in forever is this Marc Jacobs "Sophia" bag. This bag was my very first high end purse, it was a gift from my mother during my freshman year of college. I was so very excited to have a Marc Jacobs bag to call my own! So even though it's a bit worn down, it brings back a lot of great memories so every once in a while I bring it out.

Ended up staying in the city this weekend instead of heading to the beach. I have great respect for women who wear their stilettos all over the city. With a few exceptions, I am always carrying my heels in my purse and wearing flats during my commute. Last time I tried to wear heels, they kept getting stuck in the grates!
I'm currently wearing a black cardigan over this dress in the office because it is freezing, but it's annoying me that the dress has navy in it.

Both the bright print and the flared sleeves give this dress a bit of retro flair in my opinion! I snagged this dress during the last Lilly sale, and I'm glad I did. I think it's a great dress to transition from summer into fall. I'm going to be a little sad when I have to pack away my super brights from the summer. I will obviously never turn into one of those people that wear black all the time, and I'm embracing the rich vibrant shades for fall, but I will say I am going to miss the fun summer colors I've been wearing!

Sad face because I'm having issues with my DSLR camera, so iphone photos will have to do until I can get someone to look at it. This outfit was from last Friday, I figured I could get away with cut out shoulders on a Friday.

Obviously I survived Hurricane Irene! I'm grateful that there was no real damage in Manhattan, especially because so many people did end up losing power in NJ and CT. It ended up being a low-key weekend, had a friend evacuate to my apartment, had a little ol' hurricane party on the UES, compelete with wine and lots of terrible television.

Does this dress look familiar? If so, it's probably because it's a knockoff of anthropologie/Tracy Reese's "Spinning Lace" dress from an earlier season. It's from Forever 21, but the quality of the dress is not too shabby, and the material feels soft to the touch, not icky like most synthetic fabrics from the store. It's not on the site right now but I did get it very recently in store (for sizing reference, I am wearing a Small in these photos).

Paired this dress with a kelly green cardigan, which came in handy in my freezing cold office yesterday. Why are the buildings so cold inside? Every single I walk into my lobby from outside I start shivering violently. Seems excessive to me. Wasn't sure what kind of shoes to pair with this (my initial instinct was to go with my yellow peep toes) but thought these leopard patent pumps ("borrowed" from my sister's closet) would look cute with the lace!

I think I'll change out the belt next time I wear it, it's a bit flimsy.

Happy Friday! This week has been a bit crazy, with the earthquake and now the impending hurricane coming to NYC. Luckily I'm in a no-evacuation zone, and (obviously) don't live in a highrise building, so I think I'll be okay. I'm hoping that it won't end up being bad at all, but preparing for the worst. And by preparing I mean buying some bottled water, wine, and books. Hope everyone that is potentially in the path of Irene stays safe!

Wearing my alma mater's colors today gets me in the mood for football season!!!! I've always loved black & yellow as a color combination. Now I usually don't air my insecurities on this blog, but I will admit that one of the biggest issues that I have with my physique are my arms. No matter how much weight I lose or how much I exercise, they never seem to get slimmer or more toned. I'll admit I don't really do that much with weights, I can barely get myself to do cardio, and I know I really should, but I am having a hard time getting started. My arms are the reason that I usually don't wear dresses with a neckline such as this one, as I think they make my arms look worse. But can I also brag for just a second? Last time that I was at home in May, I found this dress in my sister's closet, tried it on, and it just didn't look good. But this past weekend, I put it on again, and it fit! So I am wearing it, even if I am self conscious about my arms. Since I actively tried to get into shape in the beginning of the year, I've lost 17 pounds. I am not one for numbers on a scale, I can tell if I am losing or gaining by the way my clothes fit, so I've only weighed myself maybe a handful of times all year. But I couldn't help but fist pump a little after I saw that I lost those excess pounds. This is just motivating me to keep working hard at it. Thanks for letting me share my excitement! =)

One of the best things about going to visit my parents is that I never have to pack a lot. I know that I have a full set of toiletries in my bedroom, and tons of extra clothes that I left behind when I moved to my tiny NYC studio apartment. For example, I brought these scallop shorts with me, but the top is my sister's, and both the shoes and the bag were found in my home closet. I arrived in Georgia with just a Longchamp tote, and now I'm headed back to the city with a whole other carry on.

I always enjoy going home for a visit, because I always head back to the city feeling refreshed. It's amazing what a few nights of sleeping in a quiet environment can do to you. And of course getting to see my family (and puppies!) is always great because I don't get a chance to see them very often. I got a lot done this weekend: got a much needed haircut (it's so weird seeing my hair straight after the stylist straightened it), ordered a new pair of glasses (they are a bit too hipster-y for me but I can't wait to get them), went to the dentist (ugh), and of course ate a lot of Korean food!

I love the bright colors in this shirtdress, but the style definitely makes me feel like a retro housewife. I think I like that though. Wearing such vibrant colors aways cheers me up, even on a Monday after a pretty fun weekend!

The weekend went by far too quickly for me. Sunday I was able to go to a Mets/Braves game thanks to my friend L who had amazing tickets, which was really fun because I love going to baseball games, but haven't been in a very long time! And even though we were in New York, I had to root for the Braves!! (Who ended up winning yesterday.)

Not sure why I'm wearing jeans in the middle of summer, but sometimes a girl's gotta take a break from skirts/dresses. I didn't think I'd wear jeans at all this summer, and packed most of them away, but this flared pair from Earnest Sewn is definitely my current favorite. Flares are a breath of fresh air from the skinny jeans that I normally wear.

Anyone else love Zac Brown Band's "Knee Deep"? I've been on a country kick lately (probably influenced by my recent trip) and I love it, just a fun summer song. Wow, I can't believe that it's August already! The summer has been flying by... I originally bought this skirt to wear in the fall, but it's so lightweight (it's hard to see the pleats in these photos) that I thought it would work for right now as well. Tried to incorporate some texture and color into this look to make it a bit brighter for summer. I was talking to someone about wearing prints, and I realized that I absolutely hate wearing all solid colors. Sometimes I love the clean, classic look on other people, but for me personally I just have to add some texture or prints into a look to feel put together in it.

Had an amazing time this weekend in NC, it was so great to catch up with my college girlfriends that I don't get to see very often. More people need to get married so we have an excuse to get together for shenanigans! =)

Cats & scallops. What more could a girl want? I do feel like I get asked, "are those cats on your shirt?" everytime I wear this blouse. I run the risk of looking like a crazy cat sweater lady, but I think this blouse is pretty fun! Scalloped hems are another current love of mine, and I picked up this pair a little while ago, these have an elastic waist and are very comfortable.

This weekend was one of the hottest that I've experienced so far in the city. It was absolutely miserable. Luckily I was able to beat the heat a little bit by escaping to the Soho House rooftop pool on Friday, which was a completely amazing experience that I probably won't be able to experience again (this is the rooftop Samantha from Sex and the City tried to sneak into on the show). Also was fortunate enough to drive up to a friends' house outside Manhattan and relax by the pool. The city gets so hot, sometimes you just need to escape either by going up (rooftop) or out.

Ever since Bravo started using Britney's "I Wanna Go" in their promo spots, I've had this song stuck in my head constantly! Definitely makes me want to dance. It has a very similar look to an older J.Crew necklace, but this one is from H&M and was only $12. I like that it adds a splash of color to an otherwise drab colored outfit.

Every time I wear a gingham or a plaid shirt, I can't help but feel a bit like a country gal. This gal lives in the big city, but sometimes she can't help her inner (faux) Southerner come out! It is probably too hot in the city to be wearing anything that has sleeves, but indoors in the air conditioned office can be brutal. Luckily I can easily take this button down off while I'm running around outside, but keep it on when it's chilly inside. I've had this simple green maxi dress for a couple of years now, but I always thought it was too plain and boring, even though it's extremely comfortable to lounge around it. I'm glad I kept it around though, I thought it was a great base to showcase my favorite brightly printed shirt.

Ok, so I'm the last person I thought would ever wear a hat in public. I'm not sure what is wrong with the circumference of my head, but most hats don't fit me right and I am never comfortable in them. I did find this straw hat from Forever 21, and decided that I would try out this whole hat thing. Not sure if I'm completely sold on it, but at least it wasn't a big investment. Same with this striped dress, I didn't realize it was on sale when I got to the register, but it rang up for only $20 at Zara! Makes me kind of wish I picked up the navy striped version as well. It's dangerous when you have so many stores on the way home from work. But I'm trying to stay away from buying multiples of items, I do have a lot of navy/white striped items so I thought I'd branch out into the red. This outfit is completely matchy-matchy and overly preppy, but I love it. In an over the top Margot Tenenbaum sort of way. Is it too much red? I can't decide. Red has never been my color but it's slowly growing on me.

It has seriously been too hot to wear real clothes lately. This little romper came in handy for a weekend afternoon of brunch and walking around the city.

Even though I wish I had been at the beach this weekend, I had a great weekend in the city. Sunday was particularly delightful because I stopped by The Doughnut Plant and picked up a few doughnuts! Not sure why I was craving these things, but I'm glad I succumbed to my urges. Also, watching the US women's soccer team beat Brazil in the World Cup was awesome! I'm not normally a women's soccer watcher, but I happened to watch the whole match and was enthralled at the very end! Very exciting stuff.

I obviously do the same pose everytime I take a photo in the mirror! It has been sweltering in the city this week, and the only thing I could bring myself to wear was a knit dress. It's a bit tricky to wear something that will keep you cool yet still be work appropriate. The prints also help to hide the fact that I am always soaked in sweat by the time I walk into the office. Thankfully this week was a short week and it's finally Friday! =) Hope everyone has a great weekend.

Two things went through my head this morning as I got dressed: (1) First day back at work after five days off, this sucks! (2) What can I wear that would let me be as comfortable as possible but still be work appropriate? This outfit definitely fits the bill. And after looking at these photos, I realized how dark I got! These tan shoes are pretty much the same color as my legs... wow.

Just a question for people that read my blog regularly: is it annoying that I post these quick snaps that I take in place of my higher quality outdoor photos? I know they aren't the best quality, but sometimes I really love my outfit and don't have time in the morning to go outside and take a photo. And it's always dark when I get back home. Would love feedback!

I always think that black&white and blush always looks great together. They are not the vibrant shades I've been wearing lately, but I feel like it's very feminine and I like that.

Do you know what's better than having a 4-day weekend? Finding out that you have a 5-day weekend! I was informed on Thursday that I was going to be able to have today off as well. So the long weekend was even longer and sweeter. See some photos from my weekend after the jump!

This is what I wore to a bbq and fireworks in Sag Harbor! Stayed overnight at a beautiful house out in Bridgehampton, which is where this photo was taken. (I just love every excuse to wear these pink shorts.)

Just for fun, went to Neptunes on the 4th! It was crazy, I can't believe I went, it was straight out of Jersey Shore, but I had a great time!

All in all had a great holiday weekend. That's why I love summertime, there's always so much to do and lots of places you can go. Definitely want to head back to Montauk before the summer ends.

Definitely already in beach mode at the moment. Took tomorrow off, so I have a 4-day weekend in Montauk and the Hamptons to look forward to! Will be headed out tonight, so I've dressed comfortably for the long train ride. I feel ridiculously preppy in my stripes and boat shoes but I am kind of loving it.

How cute is this umbrella necklace? I had to have it as soon as I saw Sara (You, Me, and Anthropologie) wear it. (Funny thing is that in that post she talks about getting a dress that she saw on me. The great thing about the blogosphere is that we discover lots of fun new finds through others!)

No, I didn't blow a month's rent on buying a Muse, this bag is on loan from my lovely sister! I am obsessed with it though, I can't stop caressing it. It is a great bag, I really need to save up for one myself. I will admit that I created this look around the bag. I couldn't resist snapping up this fox-printed tank after seeing it on a blogger friend here. I love black & white mixed with a bright color, so I picked this sunny yellow skirt, even though I was worried for a second about looking too bumblebee-like.

I am such a sucker for stripes that it is ridiculous. Whether they be narrow breton stripes, or thicker rugby stripes, I can't resist them. Navy and white stripes are my favorite, but this "sail blue" color just seemed so happy and caught my eye.

These shorts have been sitting in my closet for quite some time now. I love scalloped edges, and when I saw these blush colored shorts at H&M I couldn't resist, but whenever I tried to style a look, I couldn't figure anything out. This look is casual, not 100% sure if I love it after looking at these photos, but I don't mind trying new stuff out. Although now I know to definitely suck it my tummy while taking pics while wearing this.

I couldn't resist picking up a pair of the DV Jacquie clogs in black that I already own in cognac. L&T was having a great sale and I really love how comfortable these sandals are. I feel like now my entire summer shoe wardrobe consists of Dolce Vita and TOMS shoes. I'm ok with that.

This is a dress I "borrowed" from my sister one day as I had a work event to go to and was not dressed appropriately. Luckily she lives just a few blocks from my office, and I was able to snag this dress from her. It actually came with a different slip underneath, but it was white and I didn't really love it, so I decided layering my FP lace bottom slip was a better alternative. (This slip has been getting a lot of love lately.) And I just love the scotty dogs on this belt, I have a soft spot for dogs and the orange adds a bit of brightness to the outfit.

Last night I was lucky enough to attend the CMA Songwriter Series thanks to People Country. I am a huge country fan (which is weird for a girl from New Jersey but my time in Nashville definitely influenced me) and it was amazing to see these great songwriters perform the hit songs that I love, that they wrote! And of course I loved seeing Easton Corbin (he sings "A Little More Country Than That") there, he is so adorable! I definitely was acting all boyband-crazy about him when I got to meet him after the show.

I love being matchy matchy sometimes. It's a particular pet peeve of mine, but sometimes I just can't help it. Aqua and coral is one of my favorite color combinations, and yellow is my usual "splash of color" color of choice.

Glad that I lasted through this work week and weekend! I've been stretching myself a bit thin lately, but I have a major case of FOMO (fear of missing out). I can never say no to anything. Which is always fun, but now I'm majorly feeling a worn down. Some highlights: an 80s party (complete with fanny packs), a night out at the Brooklyn Bowl, and the Coney Island Mermaid Parade which was an experience like no other! Had a great time but now I'm paying the price with a sore throat and a hoarse voice. I'm pretty sure it was worth it but now I need to recover!

This outfit was directly influenced by Bee of Atlantic-Pacific, one of my favorite blogs! (See her look here.) I am not as glam as her but I think this outfit reflects my style pretty well. The funny thing is that I had an 80s party to go to, and was about to change into my outfit at work, when a co-worker told me, "you changed already!". She thought my day look was my 80s costume! It was probably the combination of neon and floral.

I've been tying my shirts in the front a lot lately (see it here and here). I feel like it's a great way to wear a button down without having to tuck it in (which I can never get to stay) or shorten it from an awkward length. This neon gingham shirt makes me happy! It actually reminds me of a male co-workers shirt that I have always admired, and now we can match. (Totally kidding.)
