Like a Summer's Day in May

What I'm wearing:
*Forever 21 Jersey Knit Dress (similar here)
*American Apparel Winter Leggings in Black
*Frye Dorado Slouch Boots (similar here)
*Michael Kors Skorpios Ring Tote in Chestnut
*anthropologie Mint Drop Necklace

I am in the process of editing my closet at the moment, and one of the many positive side effects of attempting this grand feat is that I discover items that I love, but have forgotten about. I have been pretty good about not shopping as much lately, although that has a lot to do with the fact that I haven't really seen anything that I love, more than my self-control.

During my closet organization, I re-discovered this jersey knit dress that I wore quite often last summer. I realized that I love this army green shade, and that this dress could totally be winter-ized with some thick leggings and a cozy striped cardigan.

I haven't bought anything new clothing-wise in over 2 weeks and I feel great about it! I know I need to "shop my closet" more, and stop getting such a rush over new purchases. I have such a hard time letting go of my things, I need to re-think what my material possessions mean to me in my life. Sometimes I feel like I get wrapped up in shopping frenzies and need to just re-focus on what is really important. This doesn't mean I'll stop shopping, but it will help me figure out what will really enhance what I already own, or what will merely add to the clutter in my closet. I have enough clutter already, I really don't need to add to it!

  1. This is exactly what I have been trying to accomplish for the past year. It's weird in the beginning to slow down on shopping but, once you assess everything (material and non) it really puts things in perspective!

  3. I have been going through the same mental process of figuring out what's really important, my shopping patterns and habits, cleaning out my closet and drawers and just trying to overhaul all of the "things" that surround me. I think it has been helpful in shifting my thoughts and paving the way to a less cluttered home and mind.

I absolutely love the colors you mixed together and the generally flow and easiness of this outfit.

  4. Determining what my stuff means to me anyway is a topic I ponder often. Particularly when I am sorting through it and realizing just how much I've accumulated. But this is a great piece you've unearthed and the way you winterized it looks fantastic!

  7. You look lovely Rosa and I love the pictures. Your hair looks long and shiny and the army green works so well with the necklace, which I just love!
Thanks for your words of wisdom on re-evaluating what material possessions can mean, and how to value what we already own.

  8. I need to re go through my closet and find things that I love and don't wear as often. You look beautiful in the green and should wear it a lot more!

  9. The last photo of you is absolutely gorgeous. I haven't bought anything in a couple of weeks, too, but it's not because I'm on a ban, but I just haven't found anything I love. That, and I'm trying to save money for a new camera.

  10. Isn't it fun to re-discover clothes in your closet?
    I love it!
One strategy I have found successful, is to go through your closet, look at what trends I want to incorporate into my closet for the season and what classic items I am missing. Then I make a list and I try to stick to it as much as possible.

  11. This is a great outfit and I can see myself wearing something like this in Autumn. I don't buy a lot of clothes and shoes these days, but when I do, it'll either be something from the chain stores or Target or Anthro. I look for classics, things that I will wear forever rather than things that provide a cheap thrill. I used to spend so much on trends - i learnt the hard way!
