OOTD 06.30.09

I can't believe today is the last day of June! Time really does fly.... I feel like summer has just begun! I start classes on Monday (summer session), I am so excited because I absolutely love the professor. I love this zip dress, I know I wore the black version just a couple of days ago but I couldn't wait to wear the white one! Although I have been fighting the urge all day to just pull the zipper up and down. That would have been unfortunate.

What I'm wearing:
mint M+O silk cashmere cardigan
white Madewell zip dress
Chie Mihara sandals
Orla Kiely tote
Vera Wang for Kohls hoop earrings

OOTD 06.29.09

Another absolutely gorgeous day out! Today I went to the gym, had a decent workout, then drove into DC to have lunch with a college friend who was in town. Had lunch at Clyde's in Georgetown, and memories of many lunches from when I worked on 31st St flooded back. On the way to DC, I heard about a million McDonald's commercials for the new iced mocha and fries, so of course that is what I am snacking on right now! Tsk tsk, totally made my workout worthless! Oh well, it sure is tasty.

What I'm wearing:
Banana Republic striped chambray jacket
Madewell drawstring dress
Modern Vintage heels (I freaking love these, they are amazingly comfortable, even for walking all over Georgetown, I want to wear them everyday)
J.Crew necklaces layered with an UO locket

OOTD 06.28.09

Wore this to work today. Kind of meh about this outfit, but I always feel like I should wear the clothes that I am trying to sell in the store. Finally got this bag back from my sister, who had borrowed it for awhile. This was my very first Rebecca Minkoff, and pretty much started my obsession. Also finally got a white denim skirt (that isn't super short or frayed) at the J.Crew outlet this weekend. This skirt was exactly what I was looking for. I always feel like white denim looks good with anything in the summer.

What I'm wearing:
orange M+O cotton cardigan
navy M+O brushstroke cami
white J.Crew (outlet) denim skirt
navy Rebecca Minkoff Morning After bag
gold BCBG flat sandals

Roadie decided to make a cameo in this photo! =)

New Shoes and Jacket

Bought this polka dot jacket from the J.Crew outlet and I'm not 100% sure if I'm going to keep it or return it. I'm afraid I tend to have polka dot goggles, because I adore everything in polka dots. Also, I like the fact that the jacket is a bit cropped, and has no buttons. I pretty much never button any blazers or jackets, and so I love the fit on this one. I think this jacket is adorable, but I think I will sleep on it. I would hate to add something to my closet that will never get worn. I am such a sucker for little jackets and things.

What I'm wearing:
J.Crew (outlet) jacket
Forever 21 tank dress
Forever 21 leaf necklace
Modern Vintage shoes

But I am 110% sure I am keeping my new shoes! They are by Modern Vintage, and I'm ecstatic I found these in my size. They actually caught the eye of my sister who showed them to me at Neiman Marcus Last Call. They sorta remind me of Loeffler Randall heels that I drooled over, but were much, much cheaper (even with the LRs on sale). With their chunky heel and substantial straps, they are surprisingly comfortable. I am absolutely obsessed with these, these may become the higher heeled equivalent of my ubiquitous gold BCBG sandals that I wear all the time.

Some more pics of the shoes!

I love that they are a bit "cage-y" in the back, not solid like a lot of other ankle strapped shoes.

OOTD 06.27.09

Nothing too exciting today, but I did get a new Madewell dress! I almost paid full retail for this a few weeks ago ($78 for a fleece dress was too rich for my blood) but Madewell is having an *amazing* sale and I scored it for around ~$30! I love the zipper in the front, the pockets, and the elastic hem. Just very easy and comfortable for me. (I just went today to the store and picked up the dress in white, oops).

What I'm wearing:
black Madewell zip fleece dress
gold BCBG sandals
peacock RM Ollie bag
red leather Linea Pelle double wrap stud cuff

OOTD 06.24.09

It's a beautiful day today! I am excited because my sisters are coming to visit (all the way from Atlanta!). Hopefully I will show them a good time, I have lots of fun things (eating, shopping, sailing, celebrating my sister's 21st birthday) planned. Took a photo outside for the first time today, felt a tad silly. My neighbor was mowing his lawn, I'm sure he thinks that I am ridiculous.

What I'm wearing:
yellow Madewell tshirt cardigan (so comfy! and only $15)
grey Aerie dress (this is probably a nightie but oh well)
tan Kors Michael Kors wedges
grey/pink J.Crew chiffon flower headband
Urban Outfitters locket
J.Crew necklace
Michael Kors watch

*me being silly*

OOTD 06.23.09

Wore this to work last night, felt a bit too prim and proper in white and satin and polka dots, but I liked it enough. And I realize I really need a new camera, I've had mine since junior year of college and it's been through a lot! It looks like it's been through a war zone (sorry camera, I know I've dropped you in many Nashville bars). I think it's on it's last legs, but I am completely clueless about cameras so I'm not sure what to get next.

What I'm wearing:
snow J.Crew tartine ruffle cardigan
periwinkle M+O tie top
M+O cut off denim skirt (I can't believe I bought this, I feel like I'm in 8th grade again)
polka dot slingbacks from Korea (I haven't been to Korea in almost 3 years, I remember I bought these for super cheap off the street)
J.Crew satin rosette headband (I always feel a bit princess-y when I wear this)

The *shoes*

Look how dainty my feet look! Love anything with polka dots

My headband and jewelry (David Yurman blue topaz ring, thrifted earrings)

Consignment Shopping!

Annapolis is quite lacking in the vintage/thrift store department, so I did some googling to see what I could come up with. I found a consignment shop called New to You and it was close by, so I decided to see what I could find! Ended up buying 3 dresses! They had a decent selection of clothes, I found a bunch of cute stuff but a lot of it wasn't my size, boo. Consignment and thrifting is all about luck I guess.

The brown and white zebra striped dress was my favorite of the lot! It was only $5! It's a sweaterdress, but light enough that I can wear in the summer. I paired it in this photo with my red thrifted belt (quickly becoming a favorite) and my gold BCBG sandals that I wear everyday.

Apparently I have a thing for animal print right now! This is a leopard print sleeveless shirt dress, very crisp and perfect for summer. It's a tad big on me, but I think it looks all right belted (I do belt everything don't I). For a splash of color I paired this dress with my wine patent pumps (hard to see in this photo). I'm thinking about getting this hemmed a bit (I'm a shorty).

This dress is going to be called my "creamsicle" dress. That is what this dress reminds me of. (I know it's a bit bunchy up top, I didn't realize until pic was uploaded and I am way too lazy to re-take). It's by Free People, and I love the bottom white eyelet ruffle. Carrying my new peacock Rebecca Minkoff Ollie bag (I hate that the only way to access it is through side zips, but I still love it) and wearing the ubiquitous BCBG gold sandals.

All in all I had fun browsing! I also hit up another consignment shop (total bust) and Goodwill. Goodwill didn't have much, almost bit the bullet on a Lilly dress but decided I didn't need it.

OOTD 06.22.09

Yay! Found a new place for my self-timer. =)

I got this top a few weeks ago but hadn't worn it, so I decided today was a great day for it. It has an elastic waist, and I layered it over a thrifted black tank dress. I always love the off the shoulder look, and I think that over the dress, it's appropriate for day!

What I'm wearing:
Forever 21 printed top
black Newport News thrifted tank dress
J.Crew (outlet) half-moon beaded necklace
Handmaid by Michelle Frantz bag
grey patent croc Enzo peep toed pumps

OOTD 06.21.09

I'm not sure how I feel about this outfit quite yet. It's one of those that I liked in theory and in the mirror, but not sure how it translated into a photograph. I am seriously sore all over from going sailing yesterday (in a storm nonetheless) so I really just wanted to be comfortable. I have to work today, which kind of sucks but that's life. =)

What I'm wearing:
brown M+O textured knit cardigan (i love this, it's very lightweight and you can see the texture in the close up detail pic)
plaid Madewell top (one of my favorite pieces for this summer)
gold M+O bike chain necklace
green M+O cargo pants (they look a bit frumpy but are wonderfully comfortable, great alternative to jeans)
gold DVF love knot sandals
burnt orange Rebecca Minkoff Morning After clutch

detail of cardigan, top, and necklace:

Hope everyone has a Happy Father's Day! My father is currently working abroad right now, so I have not had a chance to wish him a happy father's day. But I do think about him all the time and I miss him so much.

OOTN 06.18.09

Finally got dressed last night and went to see The Hangover at the movies. OMG that movie was hilarious! I was really excited to watch this because I LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE (okay, am obsessed with) Bradley Cooper. I loved him in Alias and Wedding Crashers, and am even considering watching He's Just Not That Into You for him. I think he's great. Also, Andy from The Office (I don't know what his real name is) is in it and I love him too. I also just came back from Vegas a few weeks ago so it was fun seeing the places I had seen in person not too long ago! Well, I freaking loved the movie, I laughed the whole time and my boyfriend even stayed awake the whole time (he is notorious for falling asleep at the movie theater, makes me so mad!!). I also had some Raisinets and they were delicious.

What I'm wearing:
American Eagle tank (have this in another colorway, I love it, so comfy)
Madewell cropped ankle zip jeans
Nine West Heech sandals
Rebecca Minkoff Mini Nikki
American Eagle ombre headband
Vera Wang for Kohls (!!) earrings

Rainy Day Lazyness

Today feels like it is going to be a lazy day... it is past noon and I am still in my pajamas. =) I doubt that this is going to change today, so I do not have an outfit to share today. I feel like I've been pretty good about posting my outfits (whether I like them or not) so I am taking a break today. I feel like the rain has been non-stop lately, especially this morning when it was definitely coming down hard. Days like this I like to watch some trashy television and also get some reading done.

READING:
I am currently reading Assassination Vacation by Sarah Vowell. Scored this book at the last meeting of my sorority alumnae book club! It's pretty much about a woman who is obsessed with American presidential assassination and assassination attempts, and goes all around the country exploring different historical sites and hometowns. It is a very easy read, and as a history fan I am really loving it! Although the title sounds pretty morbid, the book isn't dark at all. Instead it's very interesting and has given me several morsels of historical anecdotes I will undoubtedly bring up in conversation soon.

WATCHING:
Just got started watching True Blood Season 1 (gotta love netflix!) and now I am hooked. I know that Season 2 has just started, so I can't wait until I finish Season 1 and then start watching the second season online (I don't have HBO). The gist of the show is that a telepathic waitress in Louisiana starts to get involved with a vampire. Vampires are no longer in hiding, since the invention of synthetic blood allows them to become mainstream without being predators. I don't have a thing for vampires or anything, but I am now obsessed with the Bill character! My boyfriend must think I have vampires on the brain, I just watched Twilight (terrible movie, by the way) and I have all of the Twilight books as well.

EATING: My lunch today is a Chick fil a chicken salad sandwich! Really excited about this.... =) I'm also planning on making chili for dinner tonight.

This was pretty much a pointless post but I am bored.... and it is too icky outside to go do anything.

Drawing Inspiration from Past Outfits

I'm not sure exactly when I started to photograph my outfits, but working in an office with a bathroom with a huge mirror in it sure made it easy. My (abandoned) stylediary is full of a ton of outfits that I have worn in the past. I haven't been on the site in ages, since now I am pretty devoted to this blog, but it was definitely worth a look. I have so many clothes, and always feel like I need more, when I'm sure there are tons of items that I have only worn once or twice sitting in my closet.

Here are a few favorites that I will probably re-create this summer!

I obviously still use and love my RM Matinee! But I definitely forgot about the ruffle cardi and belt! I had to look at the description to remember what belt it was (it was from the Gap). I unfortunately no longer have the dress (gave it to my mom) but I would definitely use that belt for sure (my latest posts have been dominated by belted outfits!)

Of course this dress is belted too! My MbMJ Hillier hobo is in this outfit, I think it's feeling a bit left out because of my RM madness, I will have to remember to carry it soon! My past outfits also demonstrate my obsession with these yellow peep toes, I like to pretend they go with everything.

Oh snap this is belted too. I loved this shirtdress, I have absolutely no idea where it is at the moment but I want to find it!

I know that my Diane von Furstenberg dresses have been feeling pretty left out lately. Now that I no longer work in an office, I tend to go more casual for my outfits. I forget that a wrap dress is a beautiful thing, so simple and easy to wear.

My patent orange t-strap sandals! Oh, how I have missed thee. I'm sure these are buried somewhere in a shoe bin. I can think of a handful of potential outfits these babies can snazz up this summer!

Hopefully this trip down memory lane from last summer will help me realize that I DO NOT NEED TO BUY ANYTHING. I am hoping to stick to thrifting for my shopping fix. I am moving pretty soon, into a bedroom where there are NO closets. You read that right, ZERO closet space. I need to be more picky about what gets to take up space.

OOTD 06.17.09

Trying out yet another new color combo! The shirt is much more mustard colored in real life, and the skirt is much more purple. Hate how the camera can't always capture the color perfectly, especially on a cloudy day.

Wearing:
yellow anthropologie top
linea pelle belt (i seriously pulled this out of my closet today and was wtf over where it came from)
purple thrifted skirt
steve madden pumps
rebecca minkoff studded devote bag (yes, i know the leathers don't match, but i don't care!)

Trying to decide if it's worth driving into Bethesda to check out a vintage shop my co-workers were raving about. I guess I don't have anything else to do today?

Martin + Osa sleeveless v-neck tee
thrifted belt
American Eagle denim skirt
BCBG gold sandals
Rebecca Minkoff Dark Brown Mini Nikki

Charm City Thrifting

Had the day off today, decided to make the drive to Baltimore to check out some thrift and vintage stores. I know that thrifting is always hit or miss, so I didn't get my hopes up too high. Fortunately, I found some stuff that I love!! Thrifting is great because it's an inexpensive way to bring some new items into your wardrobe. Sometimes the thought of used clothing skeeves me out, but I tend to buy items that I can just throw in the wash at home, and not have to bother with dry cleaning (or I'd never get to wear it, it would just stay in my dry cleaning bag). The main goal for today was to find some more belts, I have been really into them lately. I am desperately searching for the vintage mouse belt that I have seen on some blogs lately, it is so cute! Unfortunately I didn't find one today, but I did find a couple of other ones that would definitely go with items in my wardrobe.

The dress on the left is a great cotton jersey dress. Very simple shape, fits me perfectly, and I love it with my new red leather belt with sea shell buckle. I can see myself wearing this all summer. The denim (yes, I said denim) dress on the right is from Goodwill, and I LOVE it!! It is super broken in and comfortable. Right now it's pretty wrinkly in the photo, but I will iron it after I wash it. I am wearing it with the other new belt that I bought today.

Closeup of belts:

Also picked up a colorful scarf, below seen tied on my Rebecca Minkoff Leaf Nikki:

Pair of earrings that reminded me of David Yurman:

All in all I'm glad I made the drive up there! Even though Annapolis isn't far from Baltimore at all, I always forget about it being so close by, since I tend to head into DC if I need a big city fix. I'm excited to return and explore some more of the city next time.

OOTD 06.12.09

I bought this Topshop piece when I was in New York City a few months ago (I happened to be in town the weekend it opened and convinced my friends to take me there!) but hadn't had a chance to wear it, since I didn't really know what to pair it with. I loved the drape of the item, but it was a bit sheer. I didn't have a slip to wear under it, and it didn't look quite right with pants. Then I decided a thin tank dress would be the perfect thing to wear under it.

Wearing:
Topshop dress layered over J.Crew dress
Anthropologie belt
cream Bulga bag
green Seychelles peep toe slingbacks

OOTD 06.10.09

An absolutely beautiful day out today! Yesterday we had some terrible thunderstorms, but today is a nice sunny/cloudy day. Fingers crossed it doesn't rain again.

Wearing one of my favorite dresses for the summer, a turtle printed dress from the J.Crew outlet. White/blue is one of my favorite combos, and I love the way it looks with a splash of color (like my Leaf Nikki). I do feel a bit over-preppy with the Jack Rogers, but I love them so.

Wearing today:
-J.Crew (outlet) turtle dress
-Martin + Osa leather belt
-Rebecca Minkoff Nikki bag in Leaf
-Jack Rogers sandals (white with silver trim)

OOTN 06.05.09

Rain, rain go away.... it's been nasty weather all day long! I was incredibly unmotivated to do anything today, it was hard to even get out of bed! Did spend most of it watching the tv show "Party Down" on netflix, it is pretty funny! It's from the same creator as "Veronica Mars", one of my favorite shows, and it's funny how a lot of characters from VM made cameos. Three of the main characters are from VM too. Loved it.

This is what I'm wearing to dinner and a movie:

-American Eagle floral halter
-J.Crew Michelle cardigan
-Madewell ankle zip cropped garment-dyed denim
-KORS MK wedges
-Banana Republic earrings

-clear pink beaded J.Crew necklace
-Madewell cropped zip ankle jeans

Rebecca Minkoff Mini Nikki in Dark Brown

Scored this Mini Nikki at a Saks Off 5th for a great price! The leather is smooshy and perfect, and the most fabulous chocolate brown color! At first the word "mini" threw me off, but it's a great size. I am OBSESSED.
