I was sooo super excited to see this marked down last fall. I loved it in the catalog, and I knew I had to have it. Now that I've had it, I'm not sure if it's worth keeping or if I should sell it. I've only worn it once to a nice dinner for a few hours, and that has been it. I think it's the light color that threw me off during the holidays and I never ended up wearing it again.
Do you think I can still wear it in warmer months? I've paired it with my flat gold sandals in this photo (since the dress is so short I figured bare legs + flats would be best), does that look silly? Is it day time appropriate?
Normally I just *know* whether an item is worth keeping or not, but this has definitely been confusing me. I'm just scared that I will sell it, have seller's remorse, and then scour ebay for a year and pay an atrocious price for it to have it again.
I appreciate any input!
I don't really subscribe to pieces being only spring/summer/fall/winter appropriate (unless, of course, it has like candy cane print or something, haha) so I think you can definitely still wear this dress in the spring and summer. In fact, I even think it looks MORE spring and summer-ish than winter-ish, even though I know that the fabric is pretty thick. I think pairing it with simple, summery shoes (like the gold flats you have here) will make it translate into summer wear. You could even wear it with peep-toe flats or heels, or gladiator sandals. I can tell that you love the dress, so I would say to keep it.
ReplyDeleteFor what it's worth, it looks great on you. It's truly beautiful. I think the way you wore it with flats really dresses it down and makes it perfect to wear on a spring day in the park or to lunch. It's kind of special and unique. Sometimes, I look to that to help me decide. I ask, can I get another piece like this if I let it go? I don't think something like it will easily be found.
ReplyDeleteI do understand that it's hard to wear because of the thicker fabric.
You know, I didn't even think this dress would work in a non-formal environment until I saw you and Anjali style it so.
If it were me, I'd hang on to it. That's my honest opinion. Seriously, it's beautiful on you.
I think it's adorable, and it looks great on you to boot. IMO, this is a great summer dress with the light color. If I were you I would keep it through the summer and see how much wear you get out of it. If, by the fall you still haven't worn it very much and are still on the fence, sell it then.
ReplyDeleteDid my comment get eaten? Boo.
ReplyDeleteMy vote was to keep it.
Aw, it's really pretty on you Rosa, I would keep. I think it looks great with bare legs and simple gold flats in the summer, and also in the fall, I've winterized it with a long sleeved black shirt underneath. It's not for nighttime only! I just feel like this is a really pretty, special dress that won't come around too often! However, if you really never see yourself personally in it again and feel uncomfortable in it during the day, don't let your guilt force you to keep it...you should be happy with what you have and what you wear!
ReplyDeleteOh my, how I love this dress. I bought it in a 4, knowing I would need at least a 2. Then I traded it for a 2, and that is still too big, but knowing my size is no where in sight, I have kept it. I love the idea of this for casual winter with a black long sleeve tee or turtleneck under it and some black suede boots. I plan on wearing it (if it ever gets warm here) in the summer with some cognac colored gladiators or these purple wedge peeptoes I have. I think it would look great with the black gepetto cardigan from a few years back, but I haven't tried it on wih that yet. I say keep it- an item is as versatile as you make it ;-)
ReplyDeleteStefanie
I think the dress looks great on you and I think one of the outfits that first attracted me to your blog was you in that dress!
ReplyDeleteI agree with the other gals, some simple sandals will help keep the look simple and summery and a casual jacket or cardi may help "cas it up."
I think that dress would look killer for spring and summer.
I think it looks great on you. If the lighter color bothers you, maybe you could try putting a cardigan over it - a longer slub-type cardigan might dress it down for casual springtime wear. :)
ReplyDeleteCan't comment on the thickness of the fabric personally - but I do think the overall vibe is very appropriate for the Spring/Early Summer and Fall.
ReplyDeleteI ditto Goldenmeans comment about adding a black shirt in the fall or winter.
Since it looks so darling on you I would say keep it!
I would keep it. It looks great on you, and I think it's a versatile piece, so I wouldn't worry about what to pair it with. The white almost makes it especially summer-appropriate, imo. Keep it!
ReplyDeleteI LOVE this dress. You should totally keep it, looks amazing on you =) If I was skinny I'd buy it off you lmao
ReplyDeleteI would definitely keep it. This dress would be in my closet if they had made it in a 12 or 14. I think it's such an awesome dress and it looks great on you. I love it with gold flat sandals and think it could absolutely be a day dress.
ReplyDeleteThe remorse feeling is the worse. But if you don't wear it more than 1 to 3 times in the next year then maybe you should sell it because this dress deserves some fresh air and compliments ;)
wow, it's adorable! I say keep it because I found one on sale last year but it was a size too big, I still have buyers remorse because I didn't buy it and have it tailored. I think it's beautifully constructed and something that will really last. Of course, I'm also going to say that if you don't think you will wear it in the next 6 months, get rid of it! I am guilty of buying things because I think they are beautiful not because I will get a lot of use out of them and it's been a long slow process for me to stop doing that!
ReplyDeleteOne word: KEEP.
ReplyDeleteBoutzie' ^_^
KEEP! I am kicking myself for not getting this dress... It looks really pretty on you! I think that it looks great paired w/ simple items, like the flats that you have on. You could easily make a day/night outfit w/ different shoes. Hopefully it will make some rounds in your summer outfit posts ;)
ReplyDeleteRosa, if you are going to sell this dress, sell it to me! I have been dying to find it. But it does look great on you! I agree with Goldenmeans- I would wear it all of the seasons if I was you. The flats you paired it with look adorable. Honestly, if you do sell, email me I am very interested! ashammon@hotmail.com
ReplyDeletethis dress looks LOVELY on you. I had my eye on it last fall as well, but it was waaaay too short on me. keeper!
ReplyDeleteI love this dress, and I do think it'll work very well in spring + summer. It could maybe even do fall with a navy blazer over it.
ReplyDeleteExperiment! =] It definitely looks like it belongs to a night-out occasion, but I'd play with it to see if I could get it to look a little more everyday casual.
It looks amazing on you. I say keep it. You'll find other ways to wear this in warmer months. You could try experimenting with different colored accessories (maybe navy/green/purple sandals, heels, or belts?), as well as cardigans and short-sleeved tops. I think this dress has a lot of potential!
ReplyDeleteHi! This is my first time commenting, but I've been reading for about a month now...and I would totally say keep it. It looks absolutely gorgeous on you, and I think it could be "casualized" with shots of cobalt blue or kelly green. It's one of those once-in-a-lifetime Anthro items that you'll love forever. :)
ReplyDeleteI read you wonderful blog all the time but this is my first post. I had to chime in on this one -
ReplyDeleteThat dress is beautiful on you. DO NOT GET RID OF IT!!!!! You look great and it most definitely can be worn in summer. Lovely, lovely.
i love it! it fits you perfectly. and i think you could do some really cute things layering over and underneath it! i love that you could dress it up or down. i say KEEP!
ReplyDeleteKEEEEEEEP! It looks amazing on you! I agree with all of the previous comments...it's a very versatile dress.
ReplyDeleteKeep! *If* you ever decide to sell it though, I would gladly buy it from you. laurenhiggs (at) gmail.com
ReplyDeleteIt does look a lot better on you than it would on me though!
This dress is so stunning on you! You must keep it. I think for the winter it would look great with dark cardigans, tights and maryjanes. In the spring/summer I like it how you have it on now, bare legs and flats. It is so beautiful on you, I would keep it. Unless of course its a size 4 and you would like to sell it to me! LOL!! I don't know if I've ever commented on here before, but I love your blog.
ReplyDeleteI really hope you keep it! It looks absolutely fabulous on you like it was made for you!
ReplyDeleteKeeeeep! Gorgeous and springey! I think it would be awesome with a yellow cardi!
ReplyDeletethis dress is perfect on you! keep it!!
ReplyDeleteKeep!
ReplyDeleteI think it looks adorable on you. I have the same issue with the dress. I called every store looking for it in my size when it went down to $70 and finally got it. It's been sitting in my closet though. I thought about selling it too but I couldn't do it. The dress is gorgeous. It looks really nice with a yellow or black cardigan.
ReplyDeleteI think after seeing you in it makes me want to keep it. So, I think IRS a keeper.
I love it, I think you look adorable in it, and would definitely keep it!
ReplyDeleteChic on the Cheap
Rosa-
ReplyDeleteThis is a total keeper! I think it looks super fly on you! There'd be MAJOR regrets if you parted with it, for sure. I also think it's way more spring/summer appropriate than fall. You'll get tons of use out of it. My two cents.
Hi Dear
ReplyDeleteI am very impressive in this blog. This blog shows for purchase to the shopping market. So i like very much...............................
Sell My Flat
I really like the dress and I think it looks great on you, its really flattering. I say keep, I can see it being styled in so many ways. Love your blog by the way.
ReplyDeleteIt's cute, but for the summer it's a super singular look. At least in the winter you can layer it with a turtleneck/ shirt/ cardigan/ tights/ etc.
ReplyDeleteI think it's great for warmer weather – maybe not *hot* weather (it's thicker material, right?) but certainly at least 3 seasons. I think you should keep it. If you're still on the fence, you could always try making a few outfits for it and then deciding.
ReplyDeleteI would have assumed that was a spring/summer dress, so yes! Keep and wear it with wedges or sandals. It looks like it fits you perfectly.
ReplyDeleteYou know I've had the same feelings about the Silken Trellis Dress (same maker, Twinkle by Wenlan) off and on...I considered returning it as i've had no where really to wear it yet....but it's so pretty and special I can't seem to part with it. I bought it after the first markdown when it was still pretty pricey..and it fits quite snug on me right now (i need to drop 5-10 lbs) but otherwise the fit is beautiful and the open back is so unique...I am not sure if it's appropriate for summer either...the purple/yellow and black might be more winter? but the open back more summer? I don't know. I think your dress is so beautiful on you however and you should keep it...
ReplyDeleteYou look beautiful in it, but if you're not attached, sell it.
ReplyDeleteSell. It's unflattering all around
ReplyDeleteKEEEPPPPP. I've been dying over this dress but could not justify it even at the sale price. It looks like it fits you perfectly. Imagine wearing it just as you styled it here in warm weather--no top layer and simple sandals.
ReplyDeleteThis dress looks FABULOUS on you! You should definitely keep it!
ReplyDeleteumm that looks AMAZING on you, DO NOT SELL IT!
ReplyDeletei have the same issue! i bought this dress when it first when on sale & i felt such victory when i did, since it is a beautiful dress. however, it has since that day it has been living in my closet without a slight glance.
ReplyDeletei kept thinking i should wear it to something fancy, but i love that you dressed it down with flats & that leaves me more feeling like i should keep mine too.
= ) love you blog btw & have picked-up quite a few adorable items that you post up. i get overwhelmed shopping at some stores, but i zero in on the items you post & happily skip out.
If anyone is looking to sell this dress, let me know. I have been searching for it and am desperate to find one for my rehearsal dinner. I'm getting married this September and my last name is Schwanhausser (literally meaning "House of Swans) so i thought it would be symbolic to wear it my last night before my name changes.
