The City

It's been a very, very long day! But now I am finally starting to feel a bit more settled in my new New York City apartment. I organized my clothes, realizing very quickly that I need more storage space. I think a trip to the Container Store is in order. I also definitely need to do a thorough weed-out. I've already pulled a couple of items and listed them in the SHOP! I will be adding to it gradually so I'd definitely check it out.

There is limited closet space in this apartment, and this particular closet is devoted to bags, dresses, and shoes. I am a total dress girl, I actually despise pants, and I realized that I own far too many, but I am very attached to them and will probably have a hard time letting go. (There are actually two shelves on top, so it's not just a giant cluster-f of bags up there. I really should think of a different storage solution.)

Once I get more settled, I can really get started on decorating! My sister and I have a lot of ideas and we are really excited to make this place our own.

What are your favorite things to see/do/eat in NYC? I would love any suggestions! =)

  2. I'm really excited for you, Rosa, and much luck on your new adventures!

If you haven't already, you have to go to the Century 21 department store downtown (near South Street Seaport and a block from the WTC Memorial). It's like Marshall's except much bigger and waaaaaay better - last season's high end designer shoes, bags, etc. I love that place.

  3. Hooray for being moved in! My eye was immediately drawn to your Flight of Swans dress in the closet! In NYC I absolutely love the Magnolia Bakery's Banana Pudding- to die for! I also know it's tough competition, but Lombardi's Margherita is my favorite pizza.

  4. OMG I could go on about great places to see/eat in NYC, so I'll list just a few here...

    - the Guggenheim is my favorite museum
    - the Union Sq greenmarket is so much fun both to shop in and walk around in (Saturday is the most crowded but best day)
    - Washington Sq Park is my fave park to just chill in and there's always something going on
    - Once Upon a Tart on Sullivan St is my fave patisserie
    - Il Gattopardo on 54th St is my fave Italian not in Little Italy (and it's right across from MOMA!)
    - ANYTHING along Broadway in Union Sq is good eats

Welcome to NYC! Wishing you much success here.

  5. Congrats on the move!

I'm not sure if this is your style or not, but you could put cute (anthropologie-type) hooks on your walls and hang the bags from them. In plain sight. Like art.

  9. Go to Five Points Restaurant and get the potato pizza! And check out Clinton St. Baking Co. (4 Clinton St.) and get their blueberry pancakes and southern breakfast. They were my two favorite places to eat while visiting!

  10. I have serious bag envy right now. My fave little restuarant to visit in nyc is the cafeteria on 17th and 7th ave- and then you can pop over to Loehmans. Back to the Cafeteria, I love their mac and cheese.

  11. I remember when I first moved to Chicago I had to get rid of so many clothes. Others I left at my brother's house and realized last summer that if I hadn't worn them in two years, I don't need them.

  12. Congradulations on your move, Rosa! That is wonderful. I love Kasmira's idea of hanging some of your bags on pretty hooks. Such a great way to display your collection, AND keep them in good condition. Another tip- I always keep the stuffing in my bags put them in the sleeper bags they come in b/c it scuffing, sagging and fading. I have bags that are 10 years old and look new b/c of this. Of course it will take up a lot of space, but then they will also be easier to stack b/c they will be stiff. Definately hit up the container store, they have great, clear shoe boxes with drawers that stack up. So convenient and space saving! Good luck!

  13. Oh wow! The bags, the shoes, the DRESSES! I love it! Do you already use huggable hangers? If not, convert to those, they make a huge difference. Can you put your shoes in clear containers and stack them? I bought a cartload of containers for $1 each at Target a couple years ago for shoes. Yes, $1-it was part of the New Year storage sale they had, but they are still really cheap, much cheaper than Container Store. They are clear with white lids and they stack very nicely on top of each other. That would make a huge difference in the shoe area.

  14. You should take advantage of the space above your shoes but below your clothes with shoe cubbies! That's how I organized my tiny closet.

I also recommend visiting Momofuku noodle bar cause it is DELICIOUS! Congrats on the move!

  15. I feel the same way about my dresses! Somehow I have a harder time letting go of dresses than anything else in my closet. But AHHH your bags! I want to poke through everything in your closet, lady!!
